Saint or Sinner: Which One Are You?
Saint or Sinner: Which One Are You? You don’t get up each day and ask that question. You wipe your eyes and consider what to have for breakfast. Alarms go off, devices need recharging, and you carry out routine tasks.
Plus, your blesh body convinces you you’re a sinner because it loves to sin. So, you doubt whether you’re even saved. If you sin as a believer, that doesn’t mean you lose your salvation, you’re wicked, or God won’t let you into heaven. It just means you haven’t reconciled the difference between a saint and a sinner.
Christians know all too well when they disobey God and disavow His presence in their lives. For me, I can’t stand to drift from God and quickly find my way back to Him.
Did you know your thoughts and behavior signal whether you believe you’re a saint or a sinner? If you’re the least bit uncertain, read on to understand the difference between these spiritual opposites.
Saint or Sinner Scriptures
The Bible is a Christian’s go-to book and sheds light on anything that makes us squirm because what the writers wrote is Holy Spirit-inspired. The following scriptures shed light on the saint or sinner meaning.
I John 3:6, 9 (NLT)
Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is.
Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God.
Romans 6:18 (NLT)
Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.
Ephesians 1:4 (NLT)
Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.
Colossians 1:22 (NLT)
Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.
I Peter 2:24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness.
Romans 5:6-8
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Surrendering your life to God is heartfelt, soul-felt, and spirit-felt. Certainly, you don’t look like a saint when you act more like a sinner.
But that’s not true according to the Gospel message. You and I are squeaky clean spiritually because Jesus became the living sacrifice as punishment for our sin. We are saints not sinners because of our spiritual position which is righteous in Christ.
What if you don’t accept this truth?
Saint or Sinner: Which One Are You?
If I tell God I feel unworthy, he’d probably say, “Huh?”
No matter what I think, He believes I’m righteous because I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. The moment I did that, I went from sinner to saint. The reason: saints are beautiful because God’s Son is beautiful.
Whether you see yourself as a saint or sinner colors everything you do. It’s nearly impossible to boldly approach God’s throne when you consider yourself a lowly worm.
It helps to understand righteousness (only acquired through faith in Jesus) and grace (sin pardoned because of God’s love for mankind). A believer is righteous and holy because Jesus is their Lord and Savior. Without Jesus, you can’t live a righteous and holy life. You can try but it doesn’t work.
Even when Christians sin, they’re righteous through Jesus. A true Christian runs from evil, embraces right living, and repents quickly. They know it’s impossible to keep the law (works) and depend on the New Testament covenant of grace. Keep the following truth uppermost in your mind and spirit.
Believers are no longer sinners but saints through Jesus!
If you still aren’t sure, start saying you are righteous especially when you don’t feel that way. People who make this a habit no longer struggle with spiritual strongholds. They cling to this blood-bought affirmation and drive out any doubt as to whether they’re a saint or sinner.
Satan Confuses You About Being a Saint or Sinner
When you take deliberate steps toward righteousness, expect satan to increase his trash talk. The enemy of your soul doesn’t like it when you progress in your Christian faith. So be prepared.
He may call you a hypocrite when you believe the very thoughts he injects into your mind! He also creates negative circumstances or sends people into your life (could be a Christian) to discourage you. Just identify his tactics and realize he’s the one going to a fiery pit, not you.
Hang out with people online or in person that take their faith seriously and want to please God. If you have toxic relatives, limit how much time you spend with them. Feed on God’s Word minute by minute if necessary when doubt tries to hijack your thoughts. Read scripture, worship God, and sing Christian songs to drive out old mindsets that threaten to take over.
Keep declaring God’s truth that you’re a saint because there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). And remember Ephesians 2:19, “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and are of God’s household.”
The more you resist satan, submit to God, and confess who you are in Christ, you know you’re a saint not a sinner—all the time.
