How to Make Things Happen Spiritually
How to make things happen spiritually is a quandary to most people. Why? Comfort zones are easier than learning how to know God intimately.
Staying on the sidelines is safer where you can watch others accomplish goals. However, Christians have the best make-it-happen person to emulate. Jesus took control of every situation and completed His mission on earth.
Whether He chose disciples or fed thousands of people, Jesus always came through with results when facing insurmountable odds. He created opportunities and completed them consistently.
Jesus is never all talk and no do. A balanced sense of urgency, x-ray-like focus, and resiliency contribute to His overwhelming success.
He’s the first one to encourage you to live supernaturally.
How to Make Things Happen Spiritually: Be Creative
On a trip to Jericho, Jesus gains a following as his notoriety spreads throughout the city and surrounding regions. While there, Zacchaeus (like everyone else) wants to be first in line to see the man everyone talks about.
Because he’s short, there’s little chance he will. Plus, the citizens don’t like Zacchaeus, a chief tax collector, because he becomes wealthy at the hands of fellow Jews. They couldn’t care less whether he sees Jesus or not.
So Zacchaeus gets creative.
He sees a nearby sycamore fig tree. The branches are wide and the trunk squatty providing a prestigious viewing angle to see this famous minister and preacher.
As always, Jesus is one step ahead of everyone else. He picks Zacchaeus in the crowd and accepts this questionable character. Onlookers murmur with discontent because Jesus receives this man with open arms.
Zacchaeus’s quick thinking pays off handsomely. Jesus makes plans to visit Zacchaeus at his home. Before that happens, Jesus’ display of love changes Zacchaeus. The tax collector promises to make restitution to the people he wronged.
Originally, Zacchaeus desired to see a glimpse of Jesus but in the process, he became a new person.
Luke 19:9-10
“And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Instantly, Zacchaeus promises to give 50% of his money to the poor. That’s a radical, on-the-spot change!
Anyone in the presence of the Master changes. You learn where to be, whether up a tree or elsewhere, to receive God’s blessings.
Besides being creative, what else can you do to make things happen spiritually?
How to Become More Spiritually Connected
The man at the pool of Bethesda spent a lifetime waiting. In John 5, Jesus visits Jerusalem and passes a pool full of sick people waiting for a healing angel to pass by. The man tells Jesus he’s been an invalid for 38 years. His reason? There is no one to put him in the water.
Jesus must have thought—really—because he asked the man, “Do you want to be made well?” Understandably, that’s a fair question and hints at how unbelievable the circumstances seem—to wait so long for someone else to take charge.
In 38 years, I could pay someone to build a rolling cart to dump me into the water. However, in no way do I make light of the man’s condition. It does seem possible though, he could put a different plan into place each of those years. He has excuses and no results.
Jesus didn’t judge the invalid’s complacency. He tells him to get up and he does. End of story. Jesus knows we must take risks, make sacrifices, and watch dreams unfold into reality.
How to Make Things Happen Spiritually: Take the Initiative
Another Biblical example of how to make things happen spiritually is the woman with the issue of blood. She goes to doctors for help but is no better afterward. To her credit, she knows Jesus performs miracles.
Mark 5:27-28
“When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”
Undoubtedly weak from blood loss, she fights her way through the crowd to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. She promises herself that she deserves healing and seeks ways how to make things happen spiritually.
This is no small feat because people throng Jesus due to His celebrity. Jesus responds to her faith in public and calls her daughter. Within a few seconds, her 12-year ordeal is over. Hemorrhaging stops instantly because she is determined to make things happen. Plus, her faith connects to Jesus’ power to get things done.
Jim Lovell, a former NASA astronaut, describes this woman to a tee.
There are people who make things happen, there are people who watch things happen and there are people who wonder what happened. To be successful, we have to be people who make things happen.
People with a take-charge attitude have these characteristics:
- Desire to make progress
- See problems as opportunities
- Exude confidence
- Accomplish their dreams
- Set goals
- Face fears
The Biblical people I mentioned faced adversity and found ways to overcome and succeed in the midst of unthinkable circumstances.
They stayed tough mentally to stay ready and face every obstacle. You and I can too.
How to Make Things Happen Spiritually: 7 Ways
- Stay connected to the vine: A Christian is powerless when they disconnect from their power source, the Holy Spirit. He lives inside every person when they accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Remaining in Him (John 15:1-7) is how Christians bear fruit.
- Doubt your doubts: When doubt enters your heart, that means you believe less because doubt pushes out faith. Feed the Word of God into your heart every day.
- Don’t give up: It’s tempting when living in a fallen world to live like an unbeliever because it’s easier. That opens the door to Satan. He will gladly create problems when you no longer carry a faith shield.
- Never hate: Love God and others. Fulfilling those two commandments is fundamental to living a Christian life successfully.
- Forgive quickly: For years I was guilty of storing the deeds of what people did to me in my heart. Consequently, I didn’t excel spiritually. Now, forgiveness is a priority.
- Pray: Take your concerns to God because He is the only one who can truly help you spiritually. Learn to talk to Him as you would a friend. Don’t worry He’s not surprised by any of our thoughts!
- Listen to God speak: He speaks through people, nature, your spirit, the Bible, circumstances, etc. Actually, God has no trouble finding ways to communicate with believers. However, we have trouble hearing Him.
God wants you to know Him personally and He is more than willing to teach you how. Be a willing vessel and He will pour Himself into you for the benefit of the Kingdom.
