How to Live in the Last Days Now
It’s a common concern to know how to live in the last days. I’m not sure how God’s timetable will work for the last days but I know one thing. He gives individuals every opportunity to live for eternity with Him. It’s their choice. People can laugh all they want and call me gullible, but the last days are fast approaching. Scoffers doubt what the Bible prophesies about this end-time event.
2 Peter 3:3-4 – Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.
Yes, life does go on but for how long? The last days described in the Bible by Jesus in Matthew 24:37-44 indicate that people don’t believe it will happen.
As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
Don’t be surprised. Look for the signs of Jesus’ return.
How to Live in the Last Days: Know the Signs
How many people do you know who fit this description in Paul’s letter to Timothy? After this scripture, I highlighted specific occurrences that are now the norm.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 – But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents. Ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good. Treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. Having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
- Dangerous times: Governments are coming apart. Refugees flee for safety, uprisings and protests abound, and a one-world system seems like a definite possibility.
- Pleasure-lovers: These days it’s hard to tell the difference between Christians and unbelievers. Christians regularly watch porn along with non-Christians. People party like there’s no tomorrow (there may not be) and watch ungodly shows on TV. They tell others that scripture is out of touch. People who know better openly disobey the Word of God. Casinos are fair game and sports events are more important than putting God first. Human trafficking of adults and children occurs in epidemic proportions around the world. Women, men, and children are property. Their captors chain them to beds for sexual pleasure and monetary greed.
- Brutality: Children kill parents and parents kill children. In 2018, Chris Watts killed his entire family showing no self-control or love. In 2019, Aubrianne Moore picked up her three daughters from school and took them to lunch. Then she drove to a secluded woods and shot each of them. These isolated examples represent savage killings happening worldwide. Moreover, at any moment, a mass killing by terrorists could occur in any person’s neighborhood or country.
Other Signs of the Last Days
You and I live among unholy people who covet possessions and people’s bodies. Humility is rare. Some churches are social gathering places rather than spiritual communities to save the lost and teach the Word of God. People despise those who live holy lives and celebrate evil. For example, people clapped in 2019 in a New York court when an abortion bill passed. On average, people take 4-8 selfies per day with 1,000 selfies posted on Instagram every 10 seconds. People are in love with themselves!
How to Live in the Last Days: Follow a Checklist
- Love More, Not Less: It’s tempting to confirm to others that people will flood hell’s portals. Last days mean just that. Time is short to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. Whether you believe in pre-, mid, or post-trib, Christians should do all they can to spread the Gospel message. I’m not good at talking to others but I don’t mind writing about Jesus. Find your niche and work hard because the last days is not something God looks forward to. He loves everyone. They choose hell for themselves, God doesn’t. He will grieve when time runs out for them. Start praising God for saved souls rather than ask Him to save them. Intervene for thousands if not millions—believing in advance for their salvation whether you see it or not.
- Get Ready to Meet the Bridegroom: Don’t get drowsy and sleep through life if Jesus tarries. As Jesus described in His parable about five foolish and five wise virgins, the last days mean you’re ready and equipped for His return. Keep your reservoir full of the oil of the Holy Spirit to shine your light on darkness.
- Watch and Pray: Bathe yourself in scripture. Maybe that sounds odd but it simply means to study your Bible like you would when eating a favorite meal. Make infilling your spirit with God’s Word—in abundance—a daily priority. Pray often throughout the day. Tiny prayers add up to hours of communion with God. Learn to stay prayed up and filled up. If you don’t, you won’t be able to recognize God’s voice. I’m convinced Christians who watch and pray will be spiritually alert prior to the Lord’s return.
- Don’t Do What the World Does: This may seem like a no brainer but Christians accept the world’s ways simply because they live on Earth. You and I need divine guidance and God’s intervention now more than ever. Separate yourself from people and activities that dishonor God. Pay attention when the Holy Spirit grieves through you. He’s signaling you to stop short and think about what you’re doing. If you stay in close contact with God, He will let you know what to avoid.
How to Live in the Last Days: Is It Now?
Christians should not rely on authoritative figures when it comes to understanding the truth of the Gospel about how to live in the last days. Pursue the Holy Spirit living inside you for answers. People will die from famines, wars, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. These things must also occur:
Matthew 24:14-18 – And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation, spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house. Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak.
Many believe that the abomination standing in the holy place is the antichrist standing in a Jerusalem temple.
2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 – Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
Stay prepared, endure, and persevere to proclaim the Gospel to lost people. For Christians, the end is just the beginning.
