God’s Will to Heal Hasn’t Changed

god's will to heal

It’s true. God’s will to heal hasn’t changed. However, not everyone receives healing. Many continually ask, “How do I receive healing from God?” Before I delve into finding answers to questions, consider these suggestions to help you study this important topic. Many people simply lack the knowledge to get well.

  • Pray before you study the Bible. Ask God to give you a teachable spirit and an assurance to receive His truth. Don’t rush. Wait for inner peace. Reading and studying the Bible are two different things. Just as you read a person’s will when they die, believers read God’s will and testament—the Bible. Then, you go further in His testament to find out what you get! Psalm 119:18 – Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
  • Plan to study God’s Word daily. God loves excited students and rewards them with His presence. As you study scripture regularly, you expect God to speak. And when He does, don’t forget to ask Him questions!
  • Study in a distraction-free environment. Turn off the TV, radio, and smartphone.
  • Use a preferred Bible translation to help you understand the written Word. Sometimes I use my parallel Bible with the side-by-side King James and Amplified versions. I also access other versions on biblegateway.com
  • Keep a notepad handy. I keep one beside my bed so when God speaks (and I’m half awake) I don’t forget what He says.
  • Confirm any teaching. The Holy Spirit and scripture always agree. He tells you when something’s amiss. But be careful. Many mistake their intellect for the Holy Spirit because the mind quickly dismisses spiritual truth as heresy. They stop growing spiritually by turning off the Holy Spirit and listening to themselves speak.
  • Limit how often you read commentaries instead of depending on the Holy Spirit for answers. Commentaries have their place but Bible students remain spiritually alert when they dig deep inside for answers.
  • Remember: WE ARE UNLEARNED BECAUSE WE REMAIN UNTAUGHT (T. L. Osborn).

God’s Will to Heal Hasn’t Changed

This free Bible study on healing begins with asking,  “God, do you want to heal me” when there’s no evidence that He does. We all know people of faith who remain sick. For that reason, some believe God chooses who He heals. Certainly, that confirms our doubts but there’s no spiritual substance to back that belief.

Either God wants to heal you or He doesn’t. When you study about healing, the Bible is quite clear on the matter. The aim of this study is to go deeper with God and gain knowledge by TAKING SMALL DELIBERATE STEPS.

Why? God’s will to heal isn’t routinely taught from pulpits so people remain ignorant and skeptical. Teaching about healing in small increments gives you time to digest the truth so you can progress toward more knowledge. Anyone filled with religious traditions won’t recognize the truth quickly.

God’s Will to Heal Bible Verses (NIV unless noted)

Matthew 12:14-15 –But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus. Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. A large crowd followed him, and he healed all who were ill.

Luke 6:19 – and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.

Matthew 8:16-17 – When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.  This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.” (Isaiah 53:4-5)

John 6:38 – For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.

Matthew 13:15 (NLT) – For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes—so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.

Is It God’s Will to Heal Everyone?

In the first three scriptures, Jesus healed all (each and every one). Is it clear that God wants to heal all and more specifically to heal you? I suggest that you stop here and meditate on the first three scriptures. See what knowledge inside you surfaces first. That’s your current truth but may not be God’s. Press into God until you believe these scriptures before you continue with the study.

AT THIS POINT, PEOPLE FILLED WITH RELIGION CLICK AWAY WHILE OTHERS THIRSTY FOR MORE OF GOD WILL CONTINUE.

  • The cross was a perfect work of salvation, not just for our spirits, but for our bodies. Healing wasn’t Jesus’ idea. He came to do His Father’s will. However, some people remain blind spiritually and cannot receive what God has for them. Scripture proves that healing is God’s will; yet, people endure sickness. If that’s your situation, the problem isn’t God.
  • In Matthew 13:15, Jesus speaks about the human condition of the heart as the reason He teaches in parables. But He said the disciples’ hearts are different. Essentially, they are spiritually ready to receive healing whether the need was physical or spiritual. Did you pick up on Jesus’ compassion and urgency when saying, “let me heal them?” He places the responsibility on people when He says, “let me.” They must want healing. Even though He wills to heal them, He can’t because their spiritual reservoirs are stopped up. Are we any different than the people He referenced?

God’s Will to Heal: What Do You Believe?

I notice that Christians who believe sickness is God’s will for them find every way to get well. If they really believed they should bear sickness for God, they wouldn’t find ways to restore their health. In fact, doing so would be in direct opposition to what God wants for them.

Likewise, can a believer pray in faith for someone else to be healed if they wonder whether God wants to heal them? They can’t. Therefore, many pray futile prayers such as “Lord, heal them if it’s your will.” There’s no faith in that prayer, only doubt. That prayer indicates that God wants sickness for some and not for others. That mindset sounds like what Satan told Eve, “Did God really say . . . ?”

God doesn’t say, I’ll heal Julie and Dan but not Sarah and Jim.” He says, “I am the Lord who heals thee.”

God’s Will to Heal: Satan deceives believers.

He confounds believers by attempting to strip The Word of its power. His job is to dispute God’s Word and make it null and void in your heart.

Don’t forget what Jesus told His disciples: Matthew 28:16-20. Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.  When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Pay close attention to the last sentence – “teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” He told His disciples to “heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons (Matthew 10:8) and tell future disciples to do the same thing (that’s us).

Biblical Truth About Healing

  • Jesus came to do His Father’s will.
  • Jesus came to heal all.
  • Not only did Jesus die for our sins, he bore our infirmities and sicknesses.
  • Jesus’ will is to heal all but some don’t receive what He offers.
  • Future disciples are instructed to heal the sick.

Questions About God’s Will to Heal

  1. What keeps me from knowing without a doubt that God wants to heal me? Are my heart, ears, and eyes hardened so it’s impossible to hear God’s promptings on what to do to be healed (whole)?
  2. Based on the scriptures noted above, what religious traditions did I receive as the truth about healing that aren’t true?
  3. What physical brokenness in me indicates the need for spiritual and physical wholeness? Is He willing and able to heal me?
  4. With this new knowledge about who God is and what He wants, how does that change my current health outlook?
  5. Do I believe that God makes people sick to teach them something? If so, what scripture convinced me that belief is true? Let the Holy Spirit teach you from heaven. Again, make sure He leads you and not your intellect, religion, or fleshly thoughts.
  6. Ask God what you need to do to accept His gift of love (His provision of healing).

Prayer: Lord, I ask that you protect the mind of anyone seeking you for answers as to why they carry sickness. When they want to give up because answers don’t seem to come, give them the perseverance to press into You. I bind Satan in the name of Jesus and ask that you send ministering spirits to help serious students of The Word find answers about their health. Amen.
