Fall from Grace Scripture from God’s Heart of Mercy
Fall from grace scripture abounds when you search for it.
Here’s one example.
Galatians 5:4 (AMP)
You have been severed from Christ, if you seek to be justified [that is, declared free of the guilt of sin and its penalty, and placed in right standing with God] through the Law; you have fallen from grace [for you have lost your grasp on God’s unmerited favor and blessing].
I didn’t connect the dots about falling from grace and holiness until I saw that scripture. God brought to my mind instances when pursuing holiness or peace wasn’t important. During those times, God progressively faded into the background as He does in other Christians’ lives. It’s a choice.
Fall From Grace Scripture When Nothing Matters
It comes as a shock (later on) when you sin freely but don’t recognize the Holy Spirit wooing you back to Him.
To me, that describes the falling from gracing meaning. A believer isn’t sorrowful over sin and doesn’t miss the giving heart of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and their presence.
God has no other choice when we leave Him. He allows us to go our own way because He loves us. Spiritual consequences follow our choices and many times that’s what brings us back to Him. According to scripture, we bear the indignation of our sins. Yet, our merciful God delivers us.
Micah 7:9 (AMPC)
I will bear the indignation of the Lord because I have sinned against Him, until He pleads my cause and executes judgment for me. He will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold His righteous deliverance.
Case in point:
Moses disobeyed God’s instructions to strike the rock not speak to it. For that brief moment of indiscretion, God barred Moses from entering the Promised Land (Numbers 20:8-12). What a terrible reality for Moses to face after putting up with millions of rebellious Israelites for 40 years.
Falling from grace as it did with Moses happens the same way for us. Believers return to the Law and stop relying on the blood of Jesus that brings grace through righteousness. What we often forget is that God’s grace is sufficient.
So, can you fall from grace? I would say “yes” based on my experience.
More Fall From Grace Scripture
Hebrews 12:14-16 (KJV)
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
This scripture instructs you and me on how to rise up from the ashes when we fall from grace. Your attitude determines the steps you take. They can be with or without God.
Micah 7:8 (AMP)
Do not rejoice over me [amid my tragedies], O my enemy! Though I fall, I will rise; Though I sit in the darkness [of distress], the Lord is a light for me.
When you entertain (dance with) sin, Satan comes as a religious spirit inviting you to keep the law in a frantic attempt to resume your Christian life under grace. You counteract the enemy of your soul by allowing more light (the Lord) inside you to retake your position as a son or daughter of Christ.
This Scripture Further Defines Falling from Grace
Ephesians 2:4-9 (AMP)
But God, being [so very] rich in mercy, because of His great and wonderful love with which He loved us, even when we were [spiritually] dead and separated from Him because of our sins, He made us [spiritually] alive together with Christ (for by His grace—His undeserved favor and mercy—you have been saved from God’s judgment).
And He raised us up together with Him [when we believed], and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, [because we are] in Christ Jesus, [and He did this] so that in the ages to come He might [clearly] show the immeasurable and unsurpassed riches of His grace in [His] kindness toward us in Christ Jesus [by providing for our redemption].
For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God; not as a result of [your] works [nor your attempts to keep the Law], so that no one will [be able to] boast or take credit in any way [for his salvation].
I’m so thankful for God’s mercy. For without it, my failures would add up to overtake me. I can’t take credit when God lovingly takes me back into His embrace. He never left but I did.
Never do I intend to open doors to evil but I have. If someone offends me—that’s flinging open a portal to my heart where Satan can work mischief. Therefore, leaning on the Lord is what I want Him to find me doing.
Fall From Grace Scripture to Get Past Failures
Maybe you’ve heard the term cheap grace. That’s when Christians believe they can return to God without repentance, discipline, or Jesus’ grace through the cross. They are content with worldly ways stripped of any desire to seek God when broken and sorrowful to receive His deliverance.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a 20th-century German theologian, aptly described cheap grace.
We Lutherans have gathered like eagles round the carcass of cheap grace, and there we have drunk of the poison which has killed the life of following Christ.
He describes today’s Christians.
If you have failed, confess your sin and call on God believing He hears and extends mercy because you fell from grace. Return as a prodigal son or daughter and choose to serve Him with all your heart.
