Expect Spiritual Dreams and Visions in The Last Days
Spiritual dreams and visions happen to serious God pursuers. Especially, when you pray, “Lord, pour out your spirit on me.” And when He does, visions and dreams from the Lord may become a regular event. But prepare yourself. People may evade you.
No matter.
The Spirit of God tells us that He will pour out His spirit. For years, I’ve believed I am a member of the last generation Jesus referred to in Matthew 24:32-35.
Acts 2:17-18 (KJV)
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
These days God talks to us about the direction of a ministry, the salvation of family members and strangers, leaders and nations, finances, and situations you’ve prayed about for years. Spiritual dreams are different from regular dreams. They’re from God (Holy Spirit inspired), have a message, and you may ponder on them for years. Visions happen when you’re awake. For me it was similar to watching a movie play in your mind (it’s happened to me only twice).
Who Had Spiritual Dreams and Visions in the Bible?
- Abimelech (Genesis 20): God tells him (an unbeliever) through a dream that Abraham is married to Sarah. He protects her and ensures that she fulfills her role as Isaac’s mother. Pharaoh and Nebuchadnezzar, also unbelievers, heard from God through dreams.
- Abraham (Genesis 15): Our Father of Faith discovers that his descendants would be vast and number as the stars.
- Jacob (Genesis 28): God reaffirms that Jacob would receive Abraham’s blessing through a dream where angels ascend and descend on a ladder from heaven to earth.
- Joseph (Genesis 37): Joseph dreams his brothers will bow to him. That eventually happens after Joseph becomes second in command to Pharaoh.
- Joseph – husband of Mary – (Matthew 1): Joseph knows that the baby Mary carries is not his child. In a dream, an angel tells Joseph to marry Mary because the child was conceived through the Holy Spirit.
- Paul: In multiple visions, Paul knows to go to Macedonia to preach and to continue preaching in Corinth.
You may notice that God delivers spiritual dreams and visions when you’re discouraged and overwhelmed to provide encouragement and guidance. We live in a dangerous world and need lots of help to keep moving forward and get out of tough situations.
Lord, Pour Out your Spirit on Me
Maybe you doubt that spiritual dreams and visions are part of your future. If that describes you, pray to have the eyes of your heart enlightened to prepare to receive more knowledge of Christ.
Ephesians 1:17-19 (AMP)
[I always pray] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may grant you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation [that gives you a deep and personal and intimate insight] into the true knowledge of Him [for we know the Father through the Son]. And [I pray] that the eyes of your heart [the very center and core of your being] may be enlightened [flooded with light by the Holy Spirit], so that you will know and cherish the hope [the divine guarantee, the confident expectation] to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints (God’s people) and [so that you will begin to know] what the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His [active, spiritual] power is in us who believe.
A preacher knew how to take God at His Word. He scheduled a prayer meeting in his church to pray for rain. When the members arrived, he said, “Where are your umbrellas?”
He would say. Expect spiritual dreams and visions to come your way!
Tips Regarding Spiritual Dreams and Visions
- Keep paper and pencil nearby. I wake up in the middle of the night these days and God drops words into my mind and spirit. Many times I tell myself I’ll remember that in the morning. I don’t. So, I’m learning to get up that very moment and jot down what He says. “And then God answered: “Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision message is a witness pointing to what’s coming. It aches for the coming—it can hardly wait! And it doesn’t lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time.” Habakkuk 2:2-3 (MSG)
- Expect for God to speak to you this way. Just like the preacher I mentioned above, be ready to listen. God has something to say to believers who put their trust in Him alone. Be especially mindful when He teaches you about love. Mastering love makes all fruit of the spirit fall in line so you can walk in the spirit.
- Pray more: Two-minute prayers aren’t enough. Spending time with God in these last days is a priority, a must for true Christians who worship Him in Spirit and Truth. Through that communication, you prepare your heart and spirit to hear from God. You stay prepared for what’s next. God may give you spiritual dreams and visions for other people. Be particularly sensitive to what God says. Most times, He doesn’t want you to run and tell that person what God says. He wants you to pray for them.
Assess your spiritual dreams and visions
Whatever God says always agrees with His Word and His Spirit. If it doesn’t, it’s not from Him. If you aren’t sure, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal truth. That may take a while so don’t run with the first thought that floats by.
Don’t be afraid of spiritual dreams and visions from God. In these last days, they should increase. Just be aware that satan can attempt to orchestrate counterfeit visions and dreams. As I mentioned, test them to make sure they’re from heaven.
