Eight Benefits of Being in Christ
The benefits of being in Christ are many but I chose the best eight. Still, who I am in Christ isn’t who I could be. That’s because Satan excels at maligning the truth.
He wants Christians to believe they’re mere earthworms plowing through the dirt (darkness) coming up to the surface occasionally for air and light.
If you don’t believe that, then he plants what I call dirty-dog thoughts. Collins Dictionary defines a dirty dog as “a person deemed as despicable or contemptible.” Satan attempts and succeeds to keep me and other Christians from the fullness of God’s blessings by filtrating our thoughts with condemning words.
But what Satan pushes on a Christian is not what God believes about you.
The Benefits of Being in Christ Are Numerous
Christians are special and God wants you to see yourself that way as evidenced by these scriptures (NIV unless noted).
- Chosen: Romans 8:33 – Who will bring any charge against those whom God chooses? It is God who justifies.
- Redeemed: I Peter 1:18 – Perishable things such as silver or gold didn’t redeem you from the empty life handed down to you from your ancestors. You’re redeemed with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
- Reconciled: Colossians 1:20 – and through [the intervention of] the Son to reconcile all things to Himself, making peace [with believers] through the blood of His cross. Through Him, [I say,] whether things on earth or things in heaven (AMP).
- Heir: Galatians 4:7 – So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God made you an heir.
- Righteous: Romans 3:22 – This righteousness of God comes through faith in Jesus Christ for all those [Jew or Gentile] who believe [and trust in Him and acknowledge Him as God’s Son] (AMP).
- Dead to self: Colossians 3:3 – For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
- Betrothed: 2 Corinthians 11:2 – I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, to present you as a pure virgin to him.
- A Part of God’s Household: Ephesians 2:19 – Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers. You are fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household.
- Sealed with the Holy Spirit: Ephesians 1:13-14 – And you also are in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, the promised Holy Spirit marked you in him with a seal. He is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of His glory.
Eight Benefits of Being In Christ
Anchored in Christ means you have privileges that unbelievers don’t. For me, these are the top benefits but they aren’t the only ones (by far).
Healing: This is an area where most Christians fall short. In the back of your mind, you can’t believe that you’re worthy to receive healing. So, most of us do what the world does. We don’t consult with God and accept whatever sickness comes our way. You can offset that mindset. Find out here about your healing rights.
Life Through the Blood of Jesus: Songs are written about the power of the blood. This one eternal sacrifice by Jesus of Himself ushered in the new covenant and justified Christians as righteous. Through redemption, a Christian gains spiritual freedom and forgiveness of sins. The blood of Jesus qualifies a believer to draw near to Him. Jesus’ precious blood is why a Christian has eternal life.
Built-in Counselor: How many people have a personal, go-to God who lives inside them? The Holy Spirit is always accessible but He doesn’t force Himself on you. He has the ability to teach you ALL things if you believe He knows more! The Holy Spirit bears witness of the truth to help you navigate through life. He wants Christians to take the sword of the Spirit to stay alert and live boldly.
Ongoing Mercy and Grace: These twin helpers enable Christians to keep going. The ongoing battle between the flesh and spirit is especially frustrating. The body wants to sin and the spirit seeks righteousness. Every time I mess up, the Holy Spirit exalts me while simultaneously convicting me of blunders. That’s mercy and grace at work.
Here are 4 More Benefits of Being in Christ
Love: Upon salvation, Christians become passionate toward lost souls because they love God and others. Apostle Paul points out in Romans 5 that God loves the undeserving and ungodly. When Jesus is your Lord and Savior, you gain satisfaction by telling others about His all-encompassing love.
Satisfying Food: Everyone has a never-ending thirst for happiness and attempts to find it through things, people, jobs, etc. Before Jesus, nothing satisfies you. After Jesus, a Christian who wants to grow spiritually can’t get enough of scripture and chases God. They discover that Jesus is the bread of life who satisfies the longing soul (Psalm 107:9). He’s the deep fountain Who satisfies.
Prayer: In desperate times, we come alongside prayer warriors like the 16th president of the United States.
I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had no where else to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insufficient for that day—Abraham Lincoln.
Christians openly admit that without God they can do nothing. Supernatural help from on high is nearly mandatory to live in current-day violent surroundings. Thankfully, you have a lifeline to the throne to connect to a real God. You can pick where and when to pray, release concerns, and listen for counsel from above. Praying is the most important activity to get to know God and strengthen your relationship with the Creator.
Member of the Body of Christ: Many believers make up the Body of Christ. We’re all sizes, shapes, and ethnicities and don’t have the same functions and gifts. I’m stunned how uniquely we all fit into God’s plan as unified members of Christ’s body. We have separate relationships in Christ but come together as brothers and sisters to sustain the dominant goal of the church—to bring others to salvation and vital communion with the triune God.
These top eight benefits of being in Christ give you the freedom to explore the mind of Christ by focusing on the things of the spirit. Likewise, knowing who you are in Christ gives you hope for your future.
Living a New Life in Christ
Christ’s merit is why there’s a position for you to take when you receive Him as Lord and Savior. You didn’t earn or accomplish salvation on your own. Jesus died and resurrected to return authority to the rightful owner—you as a believer.
But a Christian must answer this question. Do you view yourself the way God sees you or is your estimation of who you are filtered through Satan’s lies?
In the next few days be aware of thoughts revealing how you see yourself. If they’re different than how God sees you, meditate on the above scriptures and ask God to help you believe that He made you wonderfully. He wants more for you than you want for yourself.
After all, when you don’t believe what God says about you, that’s pride. When you do, you let humility have its way and can begin living a new life in Christ.
