Defeating Tormenting Spirits to Live the Good Life
Defeating tormenting spirits isn’t hard when you know how. First, please answer this question.
Do you feel hopeless, discouraged, condemned, worried, fearful, and shameful—a lot?
The enemy of your soul loves to vex and annoy you because you’re a Christian. His main objective is to stop you from accomplishing God’s will. He mainly does this by tormenting your mind with words and thoughts.
If you figure out what he’s doing, you’re on your way to defeating tormenting spirits and be free from a tormented mind. Keep reading to learn how to overcome torment.
Defeating Tormenting Spirits
The more time you spend with God, the easier it is to recognize a foreign voice. Do you hear words like these? “Just give up, end your life, there’s no hope for you, you’re a loser, or you don’t love God.”
God doesn’t talk that way.
Satan and his minions torment Christians throughout the day and night. They want you to believe that you’re insane or losing your mind. Sometimes you may wake up from sleeping and experience mental suffering. If you see a pattern where you feel tormented, it’s time to seek deliverance from torment.
Top Ways of Defeating Tormenting Spirits
- Speak the name of Jesus. Be bold, shout if you want to, dance. Jesus has a very powerful name and He’s given us His name to use because we’re blood-bought. To be safe and secure in Jesus, you must pursue Him. When defeating tormenting spirits, your objective is to stop oppression. The best way to do that is to put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Spiritual problems (which this is) must be dealt with. Practice binding principalities with the Word of God. It’s your Sword of the Spirit to use and attack the enemy. Meditate on God’s Word often so it gets deep within your spirit.
- Ask the Holy Spirit how tormenting spirits entered your life. It could be through TV programs, a deceptive person, false religious teachings, influencers through your ancestral bloodline, or making a bad decision to contact a palm reader or psychic. Sometimes you may allow sin to open the door to tormenting spirits. For example, maybe you boast that you’re saved and filled with the Holy Spirit but sleep with someone you aren’t married to. That’s not the Holy Spirit working in you. It’s the spirit of lust and adultery. Satan uses sin to desensitize your spirit and invigorate your senses so you aren’t sorrowful about your behavior.
- Put on a praise tape and worship God with your whole heart. Demons hate when you’re happy, singing, and giving God glory. Breakthroughs come through praising God, prayer, speaking and living the Word to fight against spiritual wickedness, and making God’s truth your final authority.
- Pray with another Christian. Satan plays dirty. Solicit extra help to combat evil spirits. When two or more stand and agree, the Holy Spirit shows up to cast this spirit into the dry places from where it came.
Prayer Against Tormenting Spirits
Father,
I’m redeemed through Jesus’ blood and confess known and unknown sins.
Jesus is My Lord and Savior, That means Satan and his demonic spirits are powerless. I belong to Jesus, my Deliverer.
I renounce unclean and deceptive spirits attempting to stop my ongoing work for the Kingdom and confess that they have no authority to torment and vex me.
Thanks for setting me free. I tap into the Holy Spirit’s power and break demonic ties I opened the door to whether they came through soulish or sexual sins. Any spirit that has kept me bound will no longer operate in my life. I repent and ask for your forgiveness for any sins I’ve committed.
I am your child. You’ve given me authority over darkness because I remain in You and in the light of Your love. The devil, his principalities, and rulers of the darkness must cease and desist.
I’m a believer and sit in heavenly places with Jesus. He gave me authority over evil by the power of the Holy Spirit and His Name. Every day, I will fill my heart to overflow with your Word and not give in to what the enemy plants in my mind and heart. From this day forward, I receive more power and fruit of the spirit.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.
Other Tips on Defeating Tormenting Spirits
- Don’t accept the teaching that Christians can’t be demonized, they can. When a thought pops into your mind you know is contrary to God’s truth and His nature, dismiss it immediately. Make it a practice to do this every time.
- Demons aren’t powerful unless you give them power, i.e., you allow them to torment you. They realize you have authority over them but they don’t want you to know.
- Avoid getting over-confident. Defeating tormenting spirits isn’t usually a one-time event. If evil spirits try something that fails, they find ways to trap you. I like how Joyce Meyers describes moving into new spiritual territory. “New level, new devil.”
- Tormenting spirits don’t mess with you unless you’re doing something right and making spiritual progress. That’s why they’ve been assigned to you. That knowledge doesn’t feel great when you’re in the heat of the battle but helps you acknowledge you’re gaining ground spiritually.
- Know who you are in Christ. You’re a victor going someplace to be victorious! When you speak and act like an overcomer, you’re well on your way to victory.
- Read my book, “Bad Seeds Spiritual Help Book: To Stop the Enemy’s Most Deadly Deceptions” as an additional spiritual warfare resource to combat the enemy.
- Demons can’t separate you from God. Going through spiritual valleys isn’t exactly fun but God keeps you no matter what you face. When you stay in God’s presence, Satan runs for cover because he’s the father of lies—there’s absolutely no truth in him. Jesus already defeated him. Your job is to keep reminding him of that fact.
- Keep pressing forward. We can’t trust our feelings, they come and go. Just know there are a host of angels surrounding you sent as ministering spirits.
- Remember you serve an awesome God. There is nothing to fear!
