Becoming Like Jesus: 35 Ways You Can

becoming like Jesus

I think often about becoming like Jesus and wonder how I can. When I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior, that means I believe in His teachings. When Christians do that, some people criticize them for simply believing like Him and living accordingly. They see them as radicals.

Jesus routinely ruffled religious feathers. He came down hard on religious leaders who tried to act like they knew God but in reality, they had no idea who He was. When becoming like Jesus, real-deal Christians don’t water down the Word of God so it’s more palatable and comfortable for hearers. They present the Gospel as it is without apologizing for its truth.

It’s challenging to be like Jesus every day. Numerous distractions put us on the wrong course and bind our bodies, minds, and spirits. Then, we’re weakened physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially which alters our commitment to Christ and prevents us from living in freedom.

Do you act like Jesus?

Becoming Like Jesus Checklist: He WANTS US TO . . .

  • “Come and see.” Try to imagine what those three little words encompass in God’s kingdom.
  • Put God before your family (your mother and anyone else you favor more than Him).
  • Let God turn a negative circumstance into a miracle (water into wine).
  • Stop making the church a house of merchandise (does that include church bazaars, raffles?).
  • See the kingdom of God by being born again and born of water and of the Spirit.
  • Believe in heavenly things.
  • Recognize that the Son of Man was lifted up as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness so that people would believe in Him (be healed) and have eternal life.
  • Believe that God gave His only Son so people would believe and not perish. Jesus came to save the world.
  • Turn from not believing in the Son of God. Unbelievers love darkness more than light and engage in evil deeds. If you do evil, you hate light. If you prefer light, your deeds are anchored in God.
  • Believe He will provide. He’s the living water that springs up into everlasting life.
  • Remember that Jesus appeared as the 7th man to the woman at the well. He was the man who made her whole.
  • Realize that true worshippers worship the Father in spirit and truth.
  • Believe that He came to do the will of His Father. His disciples are called to harvest souls. One sows, another reaps.
  • Comprehend why He asks sick people questions such as “Will you be made whole?” or tells them to do something that’s physically impossible before they see healing in their bodies.
  • Grasp the importance of honoring the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • Hear the Word and live.
  • Search the scriptures that testify of Jesus.

The Challenge of Becoming Like Jesus

It’s possible you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior.  If so, take a hard look at who He is and accept Him as the life-giver. Or maybe you already have and don’t take your commitment to Him seriously.

At any point in your spiritual journey, you can start fresh to becoming like Christ. Getting serious about your faith means you have a willing heart. You don’t mind dropping everything else when He asks you to obey Him. You don’t hesitate and make excuses for why someone else could do a better job.

Additionally, you aren’t phony and wear masks to hide you know and follow Him.  Neither do you live like unbelievers and take on their traits because you live and work among them. Quite the contrary. You’re quick to believe and think like Him and allow the Holy Spirit to transform your mind.

About now you may think, “What seems simple isn’t always easy.” To become like Christ, you must want to. If you don’t, you won’t.

After you cross that hurdle, you can concentrate on studying the Bible and finding what Jesus believes (not believed). He hasn’t changed just because He sits at the right hand of God, His Father. Jesus is unwavering in wisdom, kindness, creativity, and humility (just to name a few attributes).
