How To Let God Fight Your Battles
You’re headed for trouble. Rather than let God fight your battles, you step onto the battlefield ready to strike down accusations, betrayals, and offenses. But, a steady supply of choice words and battle-ready fleshly actions never win spiritual battles.
To be honest, none of us have what it takes to take on satan. So if we’re lacking from the get-go, how do you let God fight your battles?
Let God Fight Your Battles: Learn to Know When
Your objective is to not advance toward your enemies or to fight at all. Why? satan wants you to fight the wrong battles so you strive with others and concentrate on defending yourself. In most situations, you can claim victory by withdrawing from the battlefield. That’s right. You do nothing in your own strength.
Let me explain.
If a Christian’s life hinges on worldly things, a self-centered battle doesn’t have an eternal purpose. Engaging in battle to hang onto stuff or defend yourself doesn’t build your spiritual, inner man. Have you fought with a sibling, spouse, or co-worker over trivial pursuits or because they didn’t show you enough attention? If you did, you engaged in a fleshly battle.
Real spiritual battles involve taking authority over darkness to become a stronger follower of God. You wear spiritual armor so you can walk into the enemy’s camp and take back what is rightfully yours.
Every time you intercede for unsaved family members and strangers, you let God fight your battles. The same can be said when you turn to God as your vindicator to receive victory over sickness. Together with God, you reign over principalities and powers with Jesus as your champion.
Step Back, Stand Still and Let God Fight Your Battles
Heed the following scriptures to understand how God fights.
Isaiah 45:2
“I will go before you and make the crooked paths straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron.”
Isaiah 52:12
“For you shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight; for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard.”
Deuteronomy 9:3
“Therefore understand today the Lord your God is He who goes before you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and bring them down before you; so you shall drive them out and destroy them quickly, as the Lord has said to you.”
Deuteronomy 33:27
“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, and will say, ‘Destroy!’ “
I Samuel 2:9
He will guard the feet of His saints, but the wicked shall be silent in darkness. For by strength no man shall prevail. The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken in pieces; from heaven He will thunder against them. The Lord will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to His king, and exalt the horn of His anointed. (1 Samuel 2:9)
Notice what God does. What seemed gnarly and twisted to you lines up. He’s your rear guard and a consuming fire, your refuge and everlasting arms. He simply says one word and the enemy scatters. I especially love that He guards my feet while the enemy stands by speechless.
Let God Fight Your Battles: Watch How God Works
When you have time, look up the scripture references as noted.
- He fights and you stay peaceful (Exodus 14:14).
- God contends with those who come against you (Isaiah 49:25).
- The Spirit of the Lord comes against your enemies (Isaiah 59:19).
- He revives you while unrelenting trouble is nearby (Psalm 138:7).
- God hears your cries and delivers you ( Psalm 34:17).
Because you’re a witness to the world on behalf of Jesus to those overcome by darkness, you’re also a target. As I’ve stated many times, satan wants you deader than a doorknob dead. Then, he stops God’s plans for you on earth.
The devil and his team of renegade bandits bait us with false teachings and sins. They attempt to divide believers so, as a whole, we appear dimmer. If they can get us to give up or stop evangelizing, they claim victory over our spirits. What pleases them, even more, is when we try to overcome them without God’s help.
Wait on the Lord and Let Him Fight
Spiritual warfare is always on your horizon when you’re a Christian. Sometimes circumstances aren’t favorable and people come against you for apparently no reason.
Don’t deny God’s power in your life, but know when to hand Him battles only He can fight. When you feel powerless against the enemy, that’s your cue to step back and let God fight. Do what Proverbs 20:22 recommends. Rather than recompense for evil done to you, wait on the Lord.
As you wait, continue to anchor your spirit in God’s Word and make sure the Holy Spirit leads you not your flesh. And don’t forget, God may want you to become an active participant like He did King Jehoshaphat.
2 Chronicles 20:20-23
Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, O Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in the Lord your God and you will be established; believe his prophets.” When he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to the Lord and praise him in holy splendor, as they went before the army, saying, “Give thanks to the Lord, for his steadfast love endures forever.”As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set an ambush against the Ammonites, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, so that they were routed. For the Ammonites and Moab attacked the inhabitants of Mount Seir, destroying them utterly; and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they all helped to destroy one another.
Jehoshaphat used one weapon to fight—praises. They defeated their enemies by rejoicing and afterward spent 3 days collecting the vast amount of booty!
I can’t emphasize this enough. You’re His. When you let God fight your battles, get ready for some drama. God doesn’t mess around when He reminds the enemy he’s defeated. Scripture indicates He thunders against your spiritual enemies from heaven and breaks them in pieces.
