How to Give God Your Problems
Is it fair to give God your problems? Seems to me He has a lot on His plate. He keeps the universe in perfect alignment and makes sure other planets don’t crash into Earth. Maybe you forgot, but helping you brings God joy. He bolsters you up when you need courage and brings people and resources your way to help you through dry seasons. He works in ways behind the scenes you don’t even know about.
Another key point—you and I aren’t able to carry problems. When we try, we buckle under pressure.
So you’re probably asking yourself, “How do I give my problems to God?
Give God Your Problems: He’s a Big God
None of us serve a little God. He’s more than the guy upstairs living in heaven. He’s SO MUCH BIGGER than our problems. God is wisdom, kindness, strength, power, and attributes we haven’t discovered all rolled into one. At some point, we all learn to LET GOD BE GOD.
And, we get to that place by beholding Him.
2 Corinthians 3:18
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
When we learn to know God personally, we start to resemble Him, the more we behold Him. The eyes of your heart, your spirit, stay focused on the finished work of Jesus. You read the Bible, fellowship with other believers, and sing and offer praises to Him. As He becomes the delight of your heart, you call Him the God of your life.
Isaiah 40:9
You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!”
But, How Do You Give God Your Problems?
When sickness strikes you or loved ones, bills mount, and friends scatter, how do you surrender your problems to God, the Creator of all that’s good?
- Recognize you’re blessed not cursed. As a believer, you have a covenant with God through Jesus, God’s gift of love to mankind. He carried curses we should have borne so we could be free from torment when our gigantic problems seem bigger than God.
- Look up. God is closer than your problems. The Holy Spirit lives inside you. He lives there to provide wisdom for every trial.
- Don’t rate your worries: Sometimes one problem seems heavier than another so you give that one the most attention. That’s not a good idea. When troubles encumber you, your focus isn’t on God—your true source of help.
- Learn to cast your care. If you’re troubled about many things, stop. Take each thought and roll that burden over to God. He can handle it. Make it a habit to give small and large concerns to God instantly. Before long casting your care feels as natural as breathing.
- Pray away concerns. Going deeper with God can mean spending more time on your knees. Staying in God’s presence is a sure way to heap on loads of relief from stress and everyday concerns. I wrote God on the Back Pew about people who meet with God often. He waits for you to join Him.
- Allow God to soften your heart. Disappointment, grief, and steady thumps from life can harden your heart. Remember this covenant promise. Ezekiel 11:19-20 – I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God. This scripture reminds us that our relationship with God keeps our hearts soft.

Give Your Problems to God
How many of your problems were ever solved by worry? I’ll answer first. None. My problems have always grown worse with worry. I’d be so distraught I couldn’t think straight to hear the Holy Spirit speak. That means when I worry my faith level is low. Unless I trust God, it’s impossible to give Him my problems.
Why is that true?
As an illustration, on any given day you hand over tasks to others. You may ask your children to clean their rooms, call a friend to care for your pets when on vacation, or ask a roommate to pick up groceries.
Why don’t you take back what you ask loved ones and friends to do? From that point forward, you’re confident they can handle the tasks.
Accordingly, you should adopt the same mindset when you give God your problems. He’s more than able to take care of your requests.
